INSIDE VENUS - A BAND BUILT ON HISTORY, HUSTLE AND CHEMISTY

Inside Venus was a Cape Town-based original music project featuring Bruce Muzik on guitar, Michelle Van Dyk on vocals, and Morne Smit on bass — with Rob anchoring the band on drums.

REUNION, VISION AND A MIDNIGHT GIG

The story of Inside Venus begins in 1997, when guitarist Bruce Muzik — a friend Rob had played with as a teenager in one of his very first garage bands — returned from London with a clear vision: to put together a serious original band.At the time, Rob and bassist Morne Smit were already deep in the trenches together, playing a demanding cover band residency three nights a week on a graveyard shift — doors at midnight, last note at 4am. It was the kind of gig that separates musicians from performers. Night after night, Rob and Morne locked in, refined their instincts, and built the kind of intuitive rhythmic chemistry that can't be taught in a rehearsal room. By the time Inside Venus came together, they were already a formidably tight rhythm section. The final piece was Michelle Van Dyk, whose powerhouse vocals brought an entirely new dimension to the project — raw, commanding, and the perfect front for the band's sound. The lineup was complete.

TWO YEARS . FESTIVALS . RADIO . A RECORD DEAL

Rob threw himself into the creative process, crafting and performing original drum parts that were integral to the band's identity - not just keeping time, but contributing meaningfully to the architecture of each song.

Over the next two years, Inside Venus built real momentum: Live performances and festival appearances across Cape Town , Radio airplay for original material  and a record deal - the industry validation that the music was connecting beyond the stage

Inside Venus stands as a defining chapter in Rob's musical story - a project that combined long-standing friendship, hard-won rhythm section chemistry, and genuine creative ambition into something that reached audiences far beyond the rehearsal room.
